Add your email DNS records at Squarespace

Where to find your DNS settings at Squarespace (including former Google Domains), and how to add the DKIM, Return-Path and DMARC records for your club's email.

Add the DNS records for your club's email at Squarespace, so OpenCourt can send your email campaigns and booking emails from your own domain. (About 10 minutes.)

Domains that were registered with Google Domains now live at Squarespace, so this guide covers them too.

Before you begin

  • Add your domain in OpenCourt first. Go to Settings → Email settings and add it in the Sending domain card (see Turn on email campaigns for your club). Keep that card open in another browser tab: you copy each Host and Value from it.
  • Did you add a subdomain, such as mail.yourclub.com? Delete only your main domain from the end of each host: pm-bounces.mail.yourclub.com becomes pm-bounces.mail.
  • Your domain's DNS is at Squarespace. If your domain is a third-party domain connected to your Squarespace site with DNS Connect, add the records at the company that manages its DNS instead. That is not always the company you bought the domain from: see Find where your domain's DNS is managed.
  • Have your Squarespace password ready. Squarespace asks you to sign in again before you add a record.

Open your DNS settings

  1. Sign in to Squarespace and open your Domains dashboard.
  2. Click your domain.
  3. Click DNS, then DNS Settings.
  4. Scroll down to Custom Records.

Add the DKIM record

  1. Click Add record. If asked, enter your password or your two-factor code, and click Continue.
  2. In Type, choose TXT.
  3. In Name, paste the DKIM Host from OpenCourt, then delete your domain from the end. For example, 20261028123456pm._domainkey.yourclub.com becomes 20261028123456pm._domainkey. The number in your host is different.
  4. In Text, paste the DKIM Value.
  5. Click Save.

Add the Return-Path record

  1. Click Add record.
  2. In Type, choose CNAME.
  3. In Name, paste the Return-Path Host, then delete your domain from the end. For example, pm-bounces.yourclub.com becomes pm-bounces.
  4. In Data, paste the Return-Path Value.
  5. Click Save.

Add the DMARC record (if OpenCourt recommends it)

Do this only if the DMARC row in OpenCourt says Recommended. If it says Published, skip it.

  1. Click Add record, and choose TXT.
  2. In Name, paste the DMARC Host, then delete your domain from the end. For yourclub.com, this leaves _dmarc.
  3. In Text, paste the DMARC Value from OpenCourt.
  4. Click Save.

Verify in OpenCourt

Go back to the Sending domain card and click Check verification. When both records show Found, the card turns green: Domain verified. DNS changes can take a few hours to show, so wait and check again if needed. Then continue with step 3 of Turn on email campaigns.

If something goes wrong

  • A record shows Not found after a few hours — open it in Custom Records and check the Name. Squarespace adds your domain by itself, so a name that still ends in your domain is saved twice. Delete your domain from the end.
  • Squarespace says the record conflicts with an existing record — another record already uses that name. Check with whoever set it up before you choose Replace record: it may serve another service.
  • You can't find Custom Records — your domain is probably connected with DNS Connect, and its DNS is managed by another company. See Find where your domain's DNS is managed.
