Find where your domain's DNS is managed
Work out which company holds your domain's DNS records, so you know where to add the records for your club's email.
Find the company that manages your domain's DNS records — the place where you add the records for your club's email. (About five minutes.)
Why it might not be the company you bought the domain from
You bought your domain from one company (the registrar). The DNS records can live with a different company — often your website builder. For example, a domain bought at GoDaddy for a Squarespace website can have its DNS at Squarespace.
The company that holds your records is the one your domain's nameservers point to. Records added anywhere else do nothing.
Look up your nameservers
- Open a free nameserver lookup, such as whatsmydns.net (choose NS) or lookup.icann.org.
- Type your domain, such as yourclub.com, without www or https://.
- Read the nameserver names. They usually include the company's name.
| Nameservers contain | Add your records at |
|---|---|
| domaincontrol.com | GoDaddy |
| squarespacedns.com, systemdns.com, or googledomains.com | Squarespace (see the note below for googledomains.com) |
| wixdns.net | Wix |
| cloudflare.com | Cloudflare |
| registrar-servers.com | Namecheap |
| worldnic.com | Network Solutions |
| ui-dns.com, ui-dns.org, ui-dns.de, or ui-dns.biz | IONOS |
| bluehost.com | Bluehost |
| dns-parking.com | Hostinger |
Google Cloud DNS also uses googledomains.com nameservers (such as ns-cloud-a1.googledomains.com). If your domain was never with Google Domains or Squarespace, and your club uses Google Cloud, add the records in Google Cloud DNS instead.
If your company is not in the table, search its help pages for "add a TXT record" and "add a CNAME record". The steps in Turn on email campaigns for your club work with any provider.
Still not sure?
- Check your email for the receipt of your domain purchase or renewal. It names the company.
- Ask whoever built your website. They usually manage the domain too. Send them Turn on email campaigns for your club and they can add the records for you.
- Email support@getopencourt.com with your domain, and we will tell you which company manages its DNS.
